Former BYU Quarterback Jake Letzraff Finds New Team at Tulane
Jake Letzraff, the former quarterback for BYU, has found a new college football opportunity at Tulane following some serious allegations and a breach of the university’s honor code.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Letzraff has verbally committed to join Tulane. This decision came after a week-long review by the university’s Title IX office, which looked into the circumstances surrounding Letzraff’s departure from BYU.
Letzraff’s transfer comes on the heels of rape and strangulation allegations stemming from an incident in November 2023, reportedly occurring in Provo, Utah.
A few weeks following the allegations, it was revealed that he intended to leave BYU after admitting to engaging in pre-marital sex, which violated the school’s honor code—a move that was cited in his response to the lawsuit. Before the upcoming season, he is expected to serve a seven-game suspension.
The lawsuit against him was dismissed on June 30, following a joint filing from both parties to drop the case.
In July, Letzraff announced his decision to leave BYU, sharing that after deep reflection and guidance from trusted individuals, he had made the tough choice to withdraw from the program. This announcement was made through an Instagram post.
Thamel noted that Letzraff is likely to join Tulane as a walk-on. Last season, he was instrumental for BYU, amassing nearly 3,000 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during an 11-2 campaign.
At Tulane, Letzraff will be part of a team that ended their last season with a 9-5 record under new head coach Jon Sumrall, who previously spent three seasons coaching at Troy.
Interestingly, Letzraff has a history with Coach Sumrall; he visited the Troy program while navigating the transfer portal after two seasons at junior college.
In his Instagram post announcing his departure from BYU, Letzraff expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter in his life. He emphasized that his journey is ongoing and that he feels highly motivated to pursue his dreams.
BYU also released a statement acknowledging Letzraff’s time with the program and expressing understanding and respect for his decision to move on.
