Campaign Office Vandalized
A campaign office belonging to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Bronx, New York, was vandalized in the early hours of Monday morning. New York City Police responded to a call at around 12:45 AM.
The vandals used red paint to deface the office and left a disturbing message: “AOC is funding the genocide in Gaza.”
Ocasio-Cortez is currently facing backlash from the right for perceived anti-Semitism, while many on the left criticize her for not being sufficiently anti-Israel. Recently, she has been supporting socialist Zohran Mamdani in his bid for the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City.
According to police, no arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing. Campaign manager Oliver Hidalgo commented on the situation, saying, “We see a lot of things like this. We also review cameras and building cameras,” and indicated that they had reached out to the landlord for further assistance.
Hidalgo added, “A lot of people have contacted us. We’re just getting started here, so we aren’t sure about any other incidents, but our main concern is ensuring everyone’s safety.”
Reports from WCBS-TV highlighted that Ocasio-Cortez maintains two other campaign offices, situated in Hunts Point and Astoria, Queens.
In November, Ocasio-Cortez criticized the Israeli lobbying group AIPAC for the losses that Democrats experienced in the last election, which led to accusations of anti-Semitism against her. Additionally, in October, a local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America considered a resolution to censure her for her votes related to Israel. Notably, this group had previously supported her candidacy in 2018.
Ocasio-Cortez has been a staunch supporter of socialist Mamdani, who while appearing moderate, has faced scrutiny for past comments that suggest otherwise.
