Netanyahu Reflects on Obama’s “Aura” and Their Differences
In a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described former President Barack Obama as having a distinct “aura.” During the interview with hosts Kyle Forteard and Jesse Sebaschani, Netanyahu discussed his relationships with Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Obama.
“I don’t agree with everything he did, but Obama is still cool,” he remarked, emphasizing the former president’s notable presence. “Do you know what that means?”
“Yeah, that’s right,” Netanyahu replied. “He had it. I acknowledge his talent, but we saw the world differently. He’s a very skilled individual, and I don’t view him as weak at all.”
Netanyahu highlighted their differences, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program, as a major point of contention. He stated, “I believed it was absolutely crucial to ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. His approach was based on accommodation, which I don’t think was effective—he essentially struck a deal that facilitated their path to nuclear armament.”
Reflecting on his testimony before Congress about the Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2015, Netanyahu recalled expressing to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee that Israel could no longer remain passive regarding Iran’s ambitions.
At that time, he stated, “Iran envelops the whole world with its terrifying tentacles.” He felt it was his duty as Israeli Prime Minister to speak out against the threats, believing that he had time to avert disaster.
Netanyahu described his congressional testimony as “not easy,” but felt it necessary to advocate for Israel. “I believed the fate of my country was at stake,” he explained. “We thought the Iranians could wipe us out.”
Now, a decade later, he stands firm in his stance, expressing continued opposition to Obama’s policies. “It’s not out of disrespect, but rather a fundamental disagreement,” Netanyahu clarified. “In politics, people often find themselves at odds, and compromise is common.”
