Tesla Charging Units Linked to Garage Fire in Lewisville, Texas
The city officials in Lewisville, Texas, announced on Tuesday that a garage fire, which caused significant damage to a home, was triggered by Tesla’s charging units.
The two-alarm blaze erupted around 12:30 PM on Monday, according to a spokesperson. “The fire in Lewisville, Texas, on Monday, July 21, was initiated by a car charger in the garage,” said spokesperson Matt Martec.
Video footage captured from the site shows a Lexus being pulled out onto a driveway that was engulfed in flames, alongside a home with noticeable roof damage.
Interestingly, the homeowner had just returned to the property when he noticed the charging unit on fire after connecting his Tesla. In a quick reaction, he moved the vehicle out of the garage and parked it on the street.
However, the fire rapidly spread, consuming the nearby Lexus and extending upward into the game’s room above the garage. Eventually, it reached the attic and the top of the house.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and firefighters had managed to control the situation by 1:15 PM. As of now, investigators are looking into what caused the fire in the charging unit.
Tesla has yet to respond to inquiries on this matter.
