Nonprofit Influence on Democratic Agendas
Left-leaning nonprofit organizations are increasingly recognized for their role in advancing the goals of radical Democrats, notably exemplified by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein.
There’s growing awareness among Americans that these nonprofits, like Dogwood Health Trust, often collaborate with Democrats to promote various initiatives. This dynamic seems to be a consistent pattern, particularly evident in the case of Governor Stein.
Recently, Stein has faced backlash from radical Democrats for rejecting pivotal laws regarding Constitutional Carry, enhanced immigration enforcement, and curtailing Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. His administration announced the distribution of a substantial $55 million grant, facilitated by Dogwood Health Trust and the Duke Endowment, aimed at benefiting “2,182 small businesses” through a targeted program in western North Carolina.
Dr. Susan Mims, president and CEO of Dogwood Health Trust, expressed pride in this initiative, emphasizing its significance for local entrepreneurs. “These businesses are vital to our community’s well-being, and our support for them must persist,” she stated.
However, there are concerns regarding Dogwood Health Trust’s actions over the years. It appears that they have channeled nonprofit funds into supporting Democratic-aligned organizations focused on leftist agendas, like DEI. For instance, in 2023, they allocated $50,000 to the Western North Carolina Workers Center to promote “racial equity media,” alongside significant sums to various groups advocating for Hispanic equity and children’s DEI programs.
The Dogwood Health Trust website emphasizes its commitment to “Equity,” a term frequently associated with leftist ideologies that sometimes overshadow the concept of true equality. They state the necessity of addressing systemic imbalances to ensure everyone has the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives, free from adverse social determinants.
In addition, the Trust committed $1 million last year to Colaborativa La Milpa, identifying it as a “Latinx immigrant leader.” This funding supported initiatives like the “Know Your Rights” workshops and a bond fund for detained immigrants.
Furthermore, they contributed $550,000 to a nonprofit focused on providing tailored healthcare services to Latino and farmworker communities. Additional funding of $15,000 was earmarked for local health services promoting LGBTQ+ causes, with another $100,000 directed toward health programs under the Southern Equality Campaign.
Stein’s partnership with Dogwood Health Trust underscores how politicians can effectively leverage nonprofit organizations to propagate leftist ideals throughout the state. He expressed concerns regarding legislation that may divert law enforcement from their primary responsibilities to serve as federal immigration agents, particularly highlighting criticism against Senate Bill 153.
