Texas A&M Mascot Reveil X Undergoes Surgery, Now on the Mend
The much-loved Texas A&M mascot has recently undergone medical procedures to tackle some health concerns, according to university officials. Reveil X, affectionately known as “The First Lady of Aggieland,” had surgery to remove his right eye due to a glaucoma diagnosis.
Mark A. Wales III from Texas A&M shared that Reveil X had been experiencing discomfort and cloudiness in his eye before the diagnosis. The eye removal was deemed necessary after the vet found signs of abnormal tissue.
Wales expressed gratitude, saying, “I’m happy to inform everyone that Miss Rev had a successful surgery, has been discharged, and seems to be resting comfortably.” It’s always a relief to hear that things went well, especially for such a cherished mascot.
Interestingly, the Reveil mascot has a history that stretches back to 1931. According to the lore, a group of cadets discovered an injured dog, and when it barked along to the morning Reveil tune, it was given the name Reveil.
Reveil X has been serving as the mascot since the 2021 season, often seen cruising around in a golf cart dubbed “Rev Force One.” As he recovers, Wales mentioned that Reveil will need some time off from his usual duties—which might be a good thing; a bit of rest never hurts, right? But the expectation is that this long-haired Collie will be back in action by fall.
Wales added that the veterinary team is optimistic about Reveil returning to enjoy all his favorite activities, like riding in Rev Force One, attending classes, cheering for the Aggies, and, of course, keeping an eye on the campus squirrels.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M’s football team had an 8-5 record under freshman manager Mike Elko last season. Fingers crossed for a successful year ahead!
