JFK's grandson criticizes Ryan Murphy for profiting from 'American Love Story'

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, has expressed support for Ryan Murphy but also raised some concerns.

On social media, alumni from Yale criticized Murphy after he made comments about Schlossberg during his podcast, “This Is Gavin Newsom.”

Murphy seemed taken aback by Schlossberg’s discontent with the upcoming series “American Love Story.”

Schlossberg, whose mother is Caroline Kennedy, contested Murphy’s assertion that he has no recollections of JFK Jr.

He also took issue with Murphy profiting from the Kennedy name while failing to support causes that his uncle championed.

“You’ve made millions off John, yet you don’t contribute anything to the causes he valued or to the public service legacy he left behind,” Schlossberg, 32, commented.

He shared some personal memories about JFK Jr., mentioning how he called him “Jackolatern” and “The Nudist.”

“I remember him as a ring bearer at his wedding and the day he passed away. I even recall when Waikhu sang at his funeral,” he elaborated.

His memories included an anecdote where JFK Jr. lost his car keys and asked a stranger if he could borrow a golf club to break a window to retrieve them.

Schlossberg previously mentioned that “American Love Story” focuses on JFK Jr. and his wife Carolyn Bessett, along with their tragic end.

The couple died in a plane crash in 1999, alongside Carolyn’s sister, Lauren Bessett.

In a prior Instagram story, Schlossberg pointed out that it was unclear if the family had been consulted about the show. “For those wondering, the new show does not answer if we’ve had any involvement,” he stated.

He reiterated that while he appreciates the admiration for his uncle, he disapproves of the way the story is being commercialized.

Murphy remarked on his podcast that he found it odd for Schlossberg to be upset over relatives he barely remembers.

“American Love Story” has come under scrutiny due to casting decisions and criticism surrounding Carolyn’s wardrobe in the series. Actress Sarah Pidgeon portrays Carolyn, while Paul Kelly plays JFK Jr.

Recent previews have also showcased Naomi Watts as Jackie O, who has adopted the former first lady’s signature dark hair for her role while filming in New York.

Fans can expect “American Love Story” to debut on FX on Valentine’s Day 2026.
