Graham and Cornyn advocate for a special prosecutor in the Obama situation

On Thursday, the leading Senate Republicans called for the appointment of special advisers to explore whether former President Obama had a role in undermining Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) pushed for this investigation, claiming they needed clarity on how Obama and his team allegedly tried to secure a victory for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Graham shared his thoughts on X, urging Attorney General Bondi to appoint a special advisor to look into whether Obama and his officials manipulated national security measures for political gain.

This demand came shortly after National Intelligence Director Tarshi Gabbard unveiled a document questioning the motivations behind Russia’s alleged support for Trump, while also affirming that Russia aimed to interfere in the election.

This document is part of a report from the House Intelligence Committee from when Republicans held majority control, and it was not made public until Gabbard’s recent disclosure. While it doesn’t directly compare to Moscow’s interference, it raises questions about how the Obama administration dealt with Russia’s actions.

Gabbard’s recent revelations are part of her broader narrative criticizing the Obama administration. Just last week, she published a report alleging that Obama’s officials had distorted intelligence regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election, suggesting they engaged in a “rebellious conspiracy.”

Numerous intelligence evaluations indicated that Russia was attempting to sway the 2016 election and that Putin favored Trump.

Cornyn stated, “Appointing an independent special advisor, as we’ve endorsed before, would be immensely beneficial for the country,” asserting that the data emerging suggests a conspiracy against Trump orchestrated by the Obama administration that undermined the American people’s voice.

“Since 2016, Democrats and liberal media have been trying to delegitimize President Trump,” he added. “We need an immediate investigation into what we believe is an unprecedented abuse of power by the presidential administration.”

A representative for Obama responded to Trump’s allegations of “treason,” highlighting that the Senate Intelligence Committee had concluded in 2020 that while Russia did attempt to manipulate the election, they were ultimately unsuccessful. The committee, during that period, also supported the intelligence community’s findings.

At that time, Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was heading the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“In respecting the office of the presidency, we usually do not dignify the misinformation emanating from this White House. However, these claims are outrageous enough to merit a response,” the spokesman remarked, calling the allegations absurd and feeble attempts to create a diversion.

As the administration is nearing a transition regarding Jeffrey Epstein, documents will be released, and lawmakers are set to issue subpoenas to seek further answers related to the case.
