Potential Criminal Charges for Former CIA Director
Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, suggested that former CIA director John Brennan might face criminal charges following the emergence of new information related to the “Russian acid” scandal.
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard has submitted documents that she claims reveal a “long-standing coup” against Trump after his 2016 election victory over Clinton. She indicated that these documents have been shared with the Justice Department concerning possible criminal activities. Turley noted that while the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling favored presidential claims of immunity for “official conduct” regarding Obama, Brennan, and Comey, their circumstances might not be as secure.
Turley remarked, “It looks like some of these individuals may have committed perjury. I see Brennan as being particularly vulnerable. What he provided to Congress seems inconsistent, so it raises real questions.”
During his testimony in Congress, Brennan reportedly did not consent to include certain “Steel related documents” in the evaluation of allegations surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Turley added, “You can’t charge Obama; it’s likely he’s protected. But Brennan and Comey aren’t shielded from perjury if the statute of limitations doesn’t apply. They might have to testify again about their previous statements.”
Documents from former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele have been widely referenced by outlets like CNN and MSNBC, promoting unverified claims that Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election due to Russian interference. Notably, the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee faced penalties from the Federal Election Commission in 2022 related to this matter.
