DNC Faces Backlash Over Deleted Post on Grocery Prices
On Thursday, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) sparked a mix of reactions after deleting a social media post that highlighted how grocery prices have surged since Joe Biden took office. It featured graphs tracking increases in prices for various essentials like cheese, alcohol, dairy, produce, and meat, beginning from October 2019, with noticeable spikes around the start of the Biden administration in 2021.
The graphics claimed, “Prices are higher today than in July 2024,” illustrating significant increases across main categories.
The White House’s Rapid Response account quickly took advantage of the situation, emphasizing the “Biden” label with arrows pointing to price hikes that occurred under the previous administration.
In the chart, costs during Biden’s term were marked in red, while the relatively stable prices under Trump appeared as just a small section of the overall graph.
Many social media users noted the irony in the DNC’s portrayal, with one user pointing out, “It looks like Biden’s America.” Conservative podcaster Kyle Becker described the tweet as potentially “one of the stupidest posts in @X history,” suggesting its removal was inevitable.
Another user remarked that it might be the biggest blunder they’ve seen on social media.
Since Biden took office, inflation has soared to levels not seen in decades, reaching a staggering annual rate of 9.1% in June 2022. By the end of his term, food prices had jumped more than 22% since he was inaugurated, according to federal data. In contrast, under Trump, food prices had only increased by about 0.6% since January.
