Travis Kelse Impresses at Training Camp
Travis Kelse, known for his remarkable skills, is garnering significant attention as he prepares for another NFL season. Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid, recently praised the 35-year-old tight end, stating that Kelse looks remarkably youthful, almost half his age, during training camp.
“He’s looking huge,” Reid mentioned, during a media session. “He appears to be 20 years old out there. He’s doing a fantastic job, really putting in the work.”
Reid observed Kelse performing exceptionally well in conditioning drills. “Honestly, I think he came first in a lot of the conditioning tests. He was ahead of me at times. I saw him sprinting during long runs. Just impressive,” Reid added, acknowledging Kelse’s dedication to maintaining peak performance.
As Kelse heads into his 13th NFL season, he mentioned that this might be his last. It’s worth noting he reportedly focused on shedding some weight during the offseason.
Kelse reflected on his evolution as a player: “Every year is a new chapter. You have to adapt. Last year, I was really stretched for time. This year, I had the chance to put in some effort in the offseason.”
When asked about the buzz around his potential 25-pound weight loss, Kelse advised, “Don’t believe everything you see online.”
With his 2024 season ending at 823 yards and 97 receptions, Kelse, who will turn 36 in October, has proven he can still contribute significantly to the Chiefs’ offense, even if he’s not as fast as he once was.
Reid expressed hope for Kelse’s longevity: “I’d love for him to play forever, but realistically, life happens. Whenever he decides to step away, he’ll leave behind a strong legacy. If he continues, that’s great too.”
This offseason, Kelse trained in Florida, preparing himself for the upcoming season after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss last February. During that game, he had a tough outing, catching only four passes for 39 yards in a significant 40-22 defeat.
A three-time Super Bowl champion, Kelse boasts an impressive career record with 1,004 receptions, totaling 12,151 yards and 77 touchdowns. The Chiefs are set to kick off their 2025 season against the Chargers on September 5th in São Paulo, Brazil.
