Scotty Schaeffler’s Golf Dominance and Cowboy Dreams

Scotty Schaeffler has been making waves on the golf scene recently. This year, he secured victories in two major tournaments: the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. Not only that, he’s also a two-time Masters Tournament champion. Interestingly, he mentioned he might, well, give up one of his major titles just to witness his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, reach the Super Bowl.

When asked about this hypothetical trade, Schaeffler, a University of Texas grad, chuckled, admitting, “I’m sure I’d trade it for the Super Bowl.” It’s a light-hearted indication of his passion for the Cowboys, which he’s openly embraced.

Recently, he made headlines ahead of his tee-off at the Open Championship held at Royal Portrush, showcasing his ability to juggle golf victories and football fandom. Schaeffler, originally from New Jersey but a long-time resident of Dallas, considers himself a die-hard Cowboys supporter.

While the Waste Management Phoenix Open isn’t one of golf’s big four, Schaeffler humorously noted he’d sacrifice that win just to see the Cowboys lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy again.

“I’ve been waiting for the Super Bowl for quite some time,” he shared, adding with a hint of sarcasm that his football-related letdowns have outnumbered his golf disappointments. “A lot of hard work has gone into supporting these boys.” It’s quite relatable, isn’t it? Many fans experience that emotional rollercoaster with their teams.

The Cowboys have a storied history, claiming five Super Bowl titles, yet the 2025 season marks a significant drought of success, as it’s been three decades since they last won a championship. In that time, postseason progress has also been limited, with their last conference championship appearance way back in 1995. In fact, Schaeffler has only witnessed the Cowboys win five playoff games in his lifetime.

This past season, the Cowboys faced challenges, especially with quarterback Dak Prescott sidelined due to a hamstring injury. They ended up with a disappointing 7-10 record and missed out on the playoffs. To add to that, Mike McCarthy was not retained as head coach.

In the world of sports, it’s often that mix of triumphs and trials that shapes the journey; for both Schaeffler and the Cowboys, there’s hope on the horizon.
