Umpire accident aids Mets in defeating Tigers 10-2 in convincing victory

This offseason, the New York Mets prioritized improving their run prevention, and with a little assistance from the umpires, they made some strides. But things have not been going well for the Mets this season; they currently have a league-worst record of 16 wins and 25 losses, despite having the highest payroll in the league at $334.8 million.

Finally, an interesting moment occurred during a game.

In a recent matchup against the Detroit Tigers, the Mets were leading 3-2 in the fifth inning. That’s when Riley Green hit a single into the right-field seats, and Colt Keith moved to third base.

Feeling confident, Keith made a dash towards home after beating the throw from third. However, he inadvertently collided with third base umpire Rob Drake, who ended up on the infield grass. This brief delay was enough for Mets pitcher Freddy Peralta to tag him out at home, squashing any rally the Tigers had going.

Following that play, the Mets managed to score three runs in both the sixth and eighth innings, pulling away for a solid 10-2 victory. Their bullpen performed well, holding the Tigers scoreless for the rest of the game.

Even though the Mets are currently on a rough patch, with a 12-game losing streak—the longest in the league this season—their recent efforts show they are trying to turn things around, winning six of their last ten games.
