Ryan McMahon welcoming 'exciting' trade to Yankees

Ryan McMahon Joins the Yankees

Ryan McMahon made his way to the Bronx for Friday’s game, traveling via Uber from Baltimore, courtesy of the Yankees.

“Honestly, it felt a bit strange. I’ve spent 12 years with Colorado, but once it hit me, I realized how thrilling this opportunity is, and I was genuinely excited to be here,” McMahon shared. He started at third base and went 3-1 in Saturday’s 9-4 loss against the Phillies. “But I had enough time for a nice drive from Baltimore and to prepare myself,” he added.

The Rockies’ 2024 All-Star expressed that transitioning from Colorado to a pennant race with the Yankees is “super exciting.”

“I mean, it’s a dream for every kid,” McMahon continued. “When you’re 9 or 10, hitting balls in your backyard, you imagine yourself playing in Game 7 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.”

He mentioned that the Uber ride took approximately 3.5 hours and he arrived at the stadium around 8:30 PM.

Aaron Boone indicated that Giancarlo Stanton may serve as the designated hitter when Aaron Judge makes his return from the injured list, considering him “an option.”

“It’s not imminent,” Boone noted regarding Stanton. He hasn’t played in the outfield since returning from his stint on the injured list in mid-June. “I’m not going to put him out there with Aaron still on the shelf, but he’ll start working there as we see how long it takes for Aaron to come back.”

Stanton hit his second home run in consecutive games on Saturday during the seventh inning.

Boone is hopeful that Lewis Gill will begin a minor league rehab for Triple-A Scranton this week, emphasizing that he “should play afterwards” to make a debut this season.

Ryan Yarbra is also expected to conduct a full bullpen session soon.

Righty reliever Yerry de Los Santos returned from his rehab assignment, rejoining the team from the 15-day injured list, while Scott Effross headed back to Triple-A after Friday’s game. Alan Winans was also optioned to Scranton following Saturday’s loss.
