Cowboys' Joe Milton makes a dig at the Patriots

Joe Milton Joins Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys made a noteworthy move this offseason by acquiring Joe Milton from the New England Patriots, enhancing their quarterback roster as they prepare for the 2025 season, led by starter Dak Prescott.

Milton expressed excitement about joining the Cowboys and had a few thoughts about his experience in the Patriots locker room. The Patriots drafted him in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, where he shared the quarterback room with Drake May and Jacoby Brissett under head coach Jerod Mayo.

“Dak is a fantastic leader,” Milton said. “I respect him a lot. He doesn’t interfere when I’m trying to learn, whether it’s in meetings or on the field. I’m getting a good perspective from a different environment.” It’s interesting how, in another context, he feels he knows what he’s getting into.

He mentioned that he enjoys the challenge of starting fresh in a new place. “It was a collaborative effort with my team to get this done,” he added, somewhat humorously noting the process didn’t require much yelling at his agents.

Last season, Milton got limited action, appearing in just one game with the Patriots. He completed 29 of 22 passes for 241 yards and tossed one touchdown, showcasing some potential that could translate into a starting role in the future.

As he moves into the Cowboys’ lineup, expectations are that he will step in as the backup quarterback behind Prescott while Grier takes the third-string spot. The pressure is on, but let’s see how it pans out.

Prescott, who managed to play in only eight games during 2024, is focused on maintaining his health for the upcoming season.
