Anna Kalinkaya Triumphs at DC Open with Beloved Dog Bella by Her Side
In a notable match at the City DC Open, Russian tennis player Anna Kalinkaya took down Emma Radkanu on Saturday. To add to the celebration, her adorable dachshund, Bella, made an appearance on the court, joyfully rushing to her owner after the match.
This wasn’t Bella’s first time on the hard court; she was there during Kalinkaya’s victory over Clara Towson the previous night, which is, I think, just too cute. It seems like a fun tradition, having Bella there for support.
After Kalinkaya’s latest win, she and Bella shared a moment amidst cheers from the crowd, who were still buzzing with excitement from the match.
Looking ahead, Kalinkaya is set to face Leila Fernandez in the final on Sunday. Her path to the final included a series of strong performances, as she won her earlier matches with scores of 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, and 7-5. Fernandez has also had her share of impressive victories, eliminating both Elena Rybakina and Taylor Townsend in earlier rounds.
Ranked 48th in the Women’s Tennis Association standings, Kalinkaya has reached as high as 11th in her career. She’s claimed one title and boasts a match record of 307 wins to 189 losses.
Interestingly, earlier this month at Wimbledon, Towson had defeated Kalinkaya, but it appears she’s bounced back nicely here. No shame in that, really; it happens to all players.
With the final match approaching, there’s a lot of anticipation. Kalinkaya’s determination and Bella’s enthusiastic support might just be the perfect combination for another success.
