Aaron Judge Lands on 10-Day Injury List
The New York Yankees have put Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list as concerns about his condition grew over the weekend. Initial MRI results indicated no acute damage to his ulnar collateral ligament, which is a relief considering the situation.
He missed just his second game of the season during the Yankees’ loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Judge is currently receiving platelet-rich plasma injections and is expected to return to the field in about 10 to 14 days.
“You don’t want to go through all those tests,” Judge mentioned, sharing his concerns. “You never know what they might find. I really pushed back against that kind of imaging because, well, if you don’t know what’s wrong, sometimes it’s better to just not worry about it.”
Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed relief as well. “I think we all feared the worst,” he said, commenting on the news that was, overall, brighter than expected.
Earlier in the week, Judge confided in Boone that he was struggling to throw beyond 60 feet. This, of course, raised some alarms. They’ve taken a precautionary approach, especially since the Phillies are known for their capable hitters, and they didn’t want to risk putting any pitcher in harm’s way.
The placement of Judge on the injured list was made retroactive to Saturday, and the Yankees chose to fill his spot by bringing in Amed Rosario, acquired from Washington.
This season, Judge has been performing outstandingly, leading the majors with a .342 batting average, .449 on-base percentage, and a .711 slugging rate. He also has 37 home runs and 85 RBIs. Previously, he was named the American League MVP in 2022, and this year’s performance was shaping up to be just as impressive.
The Yankees currently sit at a record of 56-48, putting them in second place in the American League East. The absence of Judge will certainly be felt, but there’s hope that he’ll make a quick recovery.
