Albany Restaurant Set to Reopen as Exclusive Dining Club

Albany Restaurant, a long-standing establishment catering to New York’s political elite, plans to relaunch as a private member dining club in late 2025.

Previously known as La Serre, the restaurant shut its doors in 2020, unable to recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 lockdown. Founder Anne Trimble noted that the business relied heavily on large events like banquets, which made the pandemic particularly challenging.

Originally opened in 1977, La Serre quickly became a go-to spot for influential politicians, including the likes of Hugh Carey, Mario Cuomo, George Pataki, and Andrew Cuomo.

Todd Shapiro, a spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams, is partnering with Greg Kagiano and Todd Miller from law firm Miller & Kagino to revamp this historical venue. They believe this will evolve into a significant political and social hub in northern Manhattan, with a blend of traditional charm and modern flair.

According to their vision detailed in a press release, the aim is to enhance “high-level networking, private events, and political strategy” opportunities. Membership will primarily target public officials, media figures, creatives, and civic entrepreneurs.

The redesigned club will feature revitalized interiors and a rooftop terrace, moving away from the previous upscale aesthetic to create a more contemporary club atmosphere.

Trimble, who founded the restaurant with her late husband Geoffrey—who passed away in 2005—navigated the difficulties surrounding the shutdown alongside her son, John. During this transition, the new location will also include a specially designated “war room,” named after another restaurant Shapiro owns, which is known for hosting key political meetings.
