A Pennsylvania mother tragically lost her life while supporting her daughter at a teenage softball camp when branches unexpectedly fell from a tree.
Jendy Miller, 49, had sought shade under a tall tree alongside her husband, Bill, during a hot day to watch their 16-year-old daughter’s game at a softball showcase at Western College on Thursday.
Bill recounted that while they were enjoying the game, he suddenly heard a loud cracking sound. He quickly urged Jendy to move. “I jumped out of my chair and felt a small branch brush against my legs,” he said.
Unfortunately, one of the larger branches struck Jendy on the head. She collapsed and became trapped beneath a pile of fallen limbs, as noted by their daughter’s softball coach, who set up a GoFundMe for the family.
According to Bill, many of the branches were quite thick, measuring between 10 and 12 inches. Bystanders attempted to assist Jendy while emergency responders arrived.
As paramedics loaded her into an ambulance, they were en route to Forbes Hospital, trying to determine if airlift transport to a trauma center was needed when she stopped breathing.
Jendy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Bill described the event as traumatic, emphasizing the shock of such a sudden tragedy. He shared that Jendy was a devoted mother who rarely missed any practice or event, no matter where it was held.
“That was her,” he reflected.
The GoFundMe campaign stated that all contributions would assist the family in managing unexpected expenses during this difficult time.
