A Florida woman was filmed mistreating a dog in the street, and sadly, the puppy passed away a few days afterward.
The shocking video, shared by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, shows a 33-year-old woman named Imania Davis grabbing a one-year-old Maltese and throwing him over 20 feet onto the pavement.
The dog, injured and frightened, tried to return, tail tucked, but Davis kicked him instead, as reported by the police.
She then struck the dog in the head multiple times before tossing it again, this time from a height of about ten feet into nearby bushes. That throw resulted in a broken leg for the poor animal.
Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed deep outrage: “I believe anyone who inflicts this kind of pain on a little puppy will one day face the consequences, perhaps even a special place in hell.”
The incident, captured on surveillance footage near a trailer park in Tampa on April 30th, occurred while a sheriff’s officer was viewing live footage.
By the time officers arrived, the dog was on the ground, trembling and unable to move. It was evident one of its legs was broken and its nose was bleeding.
Despite prompt care at the county Pet Resource Center, the dog unfortunately died during surgery on Tuesday, despite the veterinarians’ best efforts.
The plan was to put the dog up for adoption once he recovered from his injuries.
Davis, a Tampa resident, faces six counts of aggravated animal cruelty and is currently held in Hillsborough County Jail with a bail set at $75,000.
“What’s truly disheartening,” Chronister noted, “is that this happened in a crowded area, with many people around. It’s really sad that no one stepped up to call us.”
