NFL Host Reacts to Tragic New York City Shooting
NFL Network host Kyle Brandt expressed feeling “devastated” upon hearing about a shooting that injured a colleague in a New York City skyscraper. The incident, which occurred on a Monday evening, resulted in four fatalities and multiple injuries.
On Tuesday’s show, Brandt shared his support for the victims’ families. “It’s heartbreaking news,” he said. He recounted receiving messages from people nationwide, concerned about his well-being and questioning if he had been in the affected building. “I don’t work in that building, but it’s just devastating for everyone involved,” Brandt explained.
He reflected on the timing of this tragedy, noting, “This is a time of great excitement for the company, representing hope and rebirth.” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also offered praise for law enforcement, specifically recognizing NYPD executive Didarul Islam for their quick response. One victim, mentioned in a note sent to an employee, was confirmed as a casualty in the attack.
Goodell expressed gratitude to the officers who acted decisively during the threat, emphasizing the sacrifice made by law enforcement to safeguard others. Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams provided details regarding the shooter, identified as Shane Tamra. He indicated that Tamra seemed intent on targeting the NFL headquarters but had mistakenly taken the wrong elevator bank. Adams also mentioned that the shooter was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and was unhappy with the NFL.
“It appeared he had denounced the NFL,” the mayor said in an interview. “The headquarters is in a building where he accidentally took the wrong elevator.” Goodell later confirmed that one NFL employee was seriously injured but was in stable condition.
This tragic event occurred just before the NFL season was scheduled to begin, with games set to kick off that Thursday, featuring the Los Angeles Chargers against the Detroit Lions.
