Republicans from Ohio’s Congressional Delegation are claiming that Democratic policies have contributed to a violent altercation in downtown Cincinnati, which has gained significant attention online.
One Republican stated, “Can you name a major city in America where it’s safe for children to walk alone? I don’t think you can. That’s a concern for all of us.”
The argument continues with criticisms directed at left-leaning politicians for supporting sanctuary cities, reducing police funding, and allowing violent offenders and those with mental health issues to go unchecked. “This isn’t compassion,” they argued.
Senator Bernie Moreno, a Republican from Ohio, has called for the resignation of Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval following the incident.
Amidst this, Moreno labeled the attack as “vicious” and suggested the mayor acts dishonorably. When asked about solutions, he responded, “My resignation as mayor would be a start. There are lawmakers who care about our district and support the police.”
The mayor’s office has been approached for comments, including those from D-Ohio’s Greg Landsman’s office, which represents Cincinnati.
A viral video from the weekend reportedly shows a brutal assault on one man and a woman who attempted to intervene. Interestingly, of the 100 witnesses who recorded the violence, only one person called emergency services.
Mayor Pureval has condemned the “malicious brawl” and assured that arrests would be made soon.
Others, like Vice President JD Vance—who was a senator before taking on the VP role with President Trump—only added to the chorus of reactions, indicating that Moreno had shown him footage of the violent event.
Vance expressed his frustrations, saying, “I detest this. I hope everyone involved in the violence faces the maximum penalties.” He pointed out that someone who attacked a woman should have been dealt with much more rigorously by the legal system.
Details regarding the cause of the fight and the identities of the attackers are still unclear.
