Two Arrested After Cincinnati Downtown Attack

Cincinnati Police Commissioner Teresa Tegge revealed during a public safety meeting on Tuesday that two individuals have been taken into custody following a violent incident downtown over the weekend, which left multiple people seriously injured.

The chief confirmed that 34-year-old Montiernes Merriweather and 24-year-old Dekira Vernon have been arrested, although the specific charges against them have not been disclosed.

Interestingly, records from the Hamilton County Jail also do not provide any details regarding the charges faced by either suspect.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that three additional warrants have been issued for further arrests in connection with the incident.

Cincinnati Business Owner Voices Concerns

The Fraternal Order of Police Queen City Lodge #69 expressed gratitude to the Cincinnati Police Department for making these arrests related to the “severe attack” that occurred early Saturday morning.

Notably, the FOP also mentioned a previous case involving Merriweather, who was charged on July 10, 2025, with offenses including receiving stolen property and improper transport of weapons.

Cincinnati Political Figures React

A notable detail is that a candidate for mayorhip, who is also Vice President Vance’s half-brother, has called upon city leadership to address the brutal assault that attracted national attention.

The FOP report mentioned that Merriweather was released on a $4,000 bond, but he only needed to pay 10%, which is $400, to secure his release.

At the heart of Saturday’s turmoil was a confrontation that unfolded on the corner of Force and Elm Street outside a popular nightclub named Love and Late Night Restaurant. This incident has ignited protests nationwide after footage circulated on social media.

In the video of the altercation, onlookers filmed as a crowd violently assaulted the victims, including a woman who was knocked unconscious, while many bystanders chose not to intervene.
