Wall Street Journal Aims for Resolution

Donald Trump recently shared with reporters that The Wall Street Journal is looking to settle the defamation lawsuit he filed against them.

This lawsuit came after the newspaper published an article suggesting Trump’s involvement with Jeffrey Epstein concerning a birthday project. “They’re in talks with us about resolving it, but who knows what will come of it?” Trump commented. He emphasized, “They want to find a resolution.”

As per reports, he mentioned this during a conversation with Air Force reporters, stating that The Wall Street Journal was attempting to settle the case tied to an article discussing his ties with Epstein.

Trump asserted that the newspaper published a story claiming he had a role in organizing a birthday gift for Ghislaine Maxwell, associated with Epstein, back in 2003. He also noted that he had declined to write a birthday card for Epstein as part of that project. Trump feels he had made his objections clear before the article was published, and he contended that it resulted in significant financial and reputational damage for him.

“I feel the way I was treated by the Wall Street Journal was unjust,” he remarked. “One would think Rupert Murdoch would have a hand in this, but perhaps not. They’re communicating with us about making a move, but who knows? Maybe they’ll decide to drop it. Either way, we aim to reach a resolution.”

Interestingly, Trump has had some recent successes in settling disputes with other media outlets.

In another instance, Trump secured a $16 million settlement from CBS this month over a lawsuit related to a “60 Minutes” interview during the 2024 cycle. Additionally, late last year, ABC settled for $15 million regarding a defamation case he filed over how an anchor characterized him in a verdict that involved allegations of sexual abuse.

So, will The Wall Street Journal also choose to settle?
