MONTGOMERY, Alabama
One of the largest hospital systems in Alabama has come to a preliminary agreement with UnitedHealthcare, ensuring that thousands of residents won’t face interruptions in their insurance coverage.
On Thursday, it was confirmed just before the existing contract between UAB and UnitedHealthcare was due to expire. This agreement prevents any lapse in insurance for UAB patients.
In a statement, UnitedHealthcare remarked:
“Generally speaking, we have secured a deal that ensures continued access to UAB’s services. Our current contract has been extended until August 8th as we finalize plans for a long-term agreement.”
UAB also communicated:
“UAB Health System and UnitedHealthcare have successfully negotiated new health insurance contracts, enabling UnitedHealthcare members to keep receiving care from all UAB facilities and affiliated healthcare providers statewide without any disruption.”
The UAB System encompasses a broad network that includes Montgomery, Plattville, the Montgomery Cancer Center, and the Baptist Hospital of the Cardiovascular Association in Montgomery.
Back in June, Baptist Health had alerted patients about potential loss of in-network access.
Baptist Health stated:
“We’ve reached a tentative agreement with UAB Medicine and UnitedHealthcare on a new health insurance policy that prioritizes patient satisfaction. This means UnitedHealthcare members will continue to have access to care from all Baptist Health and UAB providers.”
“Next week, we will finalize the remaining details of this agreement, cementing our multi-year commitment. This underlines our shared goal of providing dependable and compassionate care, ensuring that all patients in Alabama maintain access to high-quality services.”
The discussions will also influence patients receiving care at UAB Saint Vincent facilities, including those located in Chilton County and the Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham.
