And Just Like That… It’s Over
The spinoff of Sex and the City, managed by showrunner Michael Patrick King, has been confirmed to wrap up after its third season, as he announced on Friday. The series, which aired on HBO Max, is marking its conclusion.
While working on the final episode, King revealed that he and Sarah Jessica Parker, among other key figures from HBO, decided to expand the series from ten episodes to include a two-part finale.
The series first premiered in late 2021, 17 years after the original Sex and the City wrapped up, and 11 years post the theatrical release of Sex and the City 2. It brought back Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, alongside Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt. Also returning were familiar faces like Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino) and John Corbett (Aidan Shaw).
This announcement followed the airing of Season 3’s Episode 10, titled “Better than Sex,” which was released on July 31.
In his statement, King expressed that they had held off on sharing this news to avoid overshadowing the season’s enjoyment with the term “final.” He thanked the fans for embracing these characters over the years.
Parker reflected on her time with the franchise in a video, sharing her sentiments about the cast and crew. She mentioned being “deeply sad” about the ending, while acknowledging the hard work of over 400 talented individuals involved in the production.
Seasons 1 and 2, along with the first 10 episodes of Season 3, are currently available for streaming on HBO Max. The series finale is set to be released on August 14.
