Parent in Florida calls for resignation of school board chair due to Hulk Hogan remarks

Controversy Surrounds Comments by Florida School Board Chair

A Florida parent is calling for the resignation of Sarah Rockwell, the chair of the Alachua County Public Schools Board, due to remarks that seem to celebrate Hulk Hogan’s death as a “one magazine” moment for the world.

Jeremy Klepper, the parent in question, expressed his discontent to Fox News Digital, stating that Rockwell’s comments insinuating that all “Maga” was “dead in the world” were inappropriate.

After the backlash, Rockwell, who was elected in 2022, reacted on social media, saying, “Oh, did Hulk die? I didn’t know.” This comment emerged in light of Hogan’s passing on July 24 at the age of 71, following a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida.

Rockwell’s Further Remarks

In response, Rockwell claimed that Hogan, whose real name was Terry Borea, had a negative impact during his career, stating he collaborated with “McMahons to help with union busting,” and added she felt no sense of loss regarding his death.

Klepper criticized Rockwell, labeling her an “extreme progressive” and claiming she lacked the capacity to ensure equal treatment for all families. He also mentioned an incident at an Alachua County Public Schools meeting where he felt that the atmosphere turned hostile, forcing him to leave.

Concerned for children in the school system, Klepper described it as “absolutely horrifying” that someone with Rockwell’s mindset was in a position of influence. After her comments gained attention online, Rockwell deleted her initial post and issued an apology on her official Facebook page.

Rockwell’s Apology

On Saturday, Rockwell acknowledged that her earlier comments were perhaps thoughtless and insensitive, expressing regret for any harm caused. She emphasized that her intention was not to hurt anyone, regardless of varying political beliefs.

She further stated, “There’s absolutely no excuse for what I said. I’m fully responsible for it,” and reiterated her commitment to representing all students and families in Alachua County.

Following her public apology, Rockwell affirmed her dedication to prioritizing children’s needs in public schools and expressed remorse for the impact of her words.

This incident has sparked further discussions about the responsibilities of educational leaders and how their public statements can significantly affect their communities.
