Potential Reunion for Keenan Allen and the Chargers

Keenan Allen seems to be on track for a reunion with the Chargers.

The 33-year-old wide receiver is set to revisit his former team this Friday, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

There’s apparently “mutual interest” between Allen and Los Angeles, according to Pelissero.

Drafted by the Chargers in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Allen played 11 seasons in San Diego before a short stint with the Bears last season.

During his time with the Chargers, he recorded 904 receptions and 59 touchdowns, racking up a total of 10,530 yards.

A standout from California, Allen was recognized as the Comeback Player of the Year in 2017.

After a less-than-stellar season with the Bears, where he managed just 744 receiving yards and 70 receptions, he’s looking to bounce back.

Speculation about potential homecomings has ramped up recently following the unexpected retirement of Chargers’ receiver Mike Williams in July.

Williams, who retired at just 30 years old, spent his first seven seasons with the Chargers before signing a one-year contract with the Jets for the 2024 season.

His time with the Jets wasn’t remarkable, as he only tallied 166 yards over nine games before being traded to the Steelers midway through last season.

Williams had initially signed with the Chargers in March and was placed on a physically unable to perform (PUP) list before training camp.

After news of his retirement broke, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert voiced his support for Williams, stating, “I want to be there for him.”

Herbert remarked, “I want the best thing for Mike. He’s always there for us, and we’re going to be there for him.” He acknowledged the challenges of the situation and expressed his admiration for Williams as both a teammate and a friend.

“At the end of the day, football is a game, and there’s more to life than just this sport,” Herbert concluded. “I want the best for him.”
