Jeremy Ruckert Shines at Jets Training Camp
Jeremy Ruckert, the 24-year-old tight end, made a noticeable impact during the Jets’ training camp session on Friday. While he did focus on catching touchdowns, there’s more to his game, and his head coach, Aaron Glenn, agrees.
“You saw today in the passing game where he can be a factor,” Glenn commented after practice. “One of the things I appreciate most is that he embodies the true Y-tight end. He can line up and help push defenders around, and he definitely proves that.”
Glenn went on to explain how challenging it can be for tight ends to block a 280-pound lineman. “It’s tough to handle guys with six techniques in front of you, but he’s really holding his own.”
Ruckert stands tall at 6 feet 5 and weighs 250 pounds, and he doesn’t shy away from using his size in blocking situations.
In his post-practice comments, he frequently emphasized his responsibilities. “I’m a consistent leader, and I’m focused on dominating that C-gap,” he stated. His commitment to consistency was clear, as he reiterated, “We got that C-gap.”
But, he knows he’s also got to contribute in the passing game.
New York has been generating excitement this training camp, especially after drafting Mason Taylor in the second round from LSU. With the investment in a tight end like Taylor and Ruckert in a critical contract year, he’s determined to stay on the field.
“I’m entering my fourth year… I really feel good about where I’m at. I’m going to be that dominant tight end every day so I can seize any opportunity,” Ruckert added. He believes in focusing on what he can control, stating that he’ll make the most of his chances when they come.
As one of the most seasoned tight ends on the Jets, he’s ready to contribute significantly this season—and maybe even reach the end zone for the first time in his young NFL career.
“This is the best I’ve felt mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’m truly excited about the season ahead, especially with our tight end room,” he concluded.
