SummerSlam is set to take over New York and New Jersey this weekend, marking the first two-night event in WWE history.
The premium live event will unfold at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, featuring a night dedicated to three championship matches.
Here’s what to expect for SummerSlam Night 1.
CM Punk vs. Gunther (c) for the World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk has boldly claimed the title of “the best in the world” in wrestling. Since his return, however, injuries and some bad luck have kept him from achieving his goal of winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk secured this title shot after triumphing in a gauntlet match on “Monday Night Raw.”
Gunther has maintained his championship reign since defeating Jay Uso a few months after WrestleMania 41. He also took down Goldberg in a recent main event and is now poised to face Punk, arguably his toughest opponent in a while.
This confrontation in the main event is sure to showcase a fierce battle of wills.
There’s been no word from Seth Rollins since his injury against La Knight weeks ago, raising questions about whether he’s lurking in the background, potentially hindering Punk’s shot at the title.
Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship
Tiffany Stratton has faced numerous challenges, successfully overcoming competitors like Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax. She’s now prepared for her biggest test yet against Jade Cargill.
Cargill won the Queen of the Ring Tournament and opted to challenge Stratton for her first singles title match. After defeating Naomi in a brutal encounter, she’s ready to make her mark.
Both women are standout performers on the Smackdown roster and could leave as champions.
Randy Orton & Jerry Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul
In the main event of Saturday night, Randy Orton teams up with Jerry Roll to take on Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. During their previous matchup, Roll played a pivotal role, stepping in just as McIntyre tried to dominate Orton.
As tensions build, fans will be eager to see if country music artist Roll can help Orton navigate past McIntyre and Paul.
Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The unlikely duo of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss have made waves in WWE. Although they haven’t quite formed a friendship, their partnership could lead to promising results in the tag team title match.
Rodriguez and Perez, however, are not backing down. After teaming up during Rodriguez’s injury, they’ve earned the chance to defend their titles against the veteran competitors.
Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross
Sami Zayn’s ongoing feud with Karrion Kross intensifies as they meet at SummerSlam. Kross has been a thorn in Zayn’s side, and this matchup feels like a culmination of their rivalry.
If Zayn triumphs, he’ll have the chance to prove Kross wrong; if Kross wins, it’ll be another blow to Zayn’s ambitions.
Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed
Roman Reigns returns to support Jey Uso, taking on Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Fans haven’t seen Reigns in action for a while, and his comeback promises to shake things up.
Breakker and Reed have been wreaking havoc on “Monday Night Raw,” setting the stage for a dramatic clash.
Once these four hit the ring, expect chaos.
