Rashee Rice Reflects on Changes Ahead of NFL Suspension

Rashee Rice has shared that he feels he has undergone a “complete change.” The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver is currently awaiting news of a possible suspension from the NFL related to his conviction from last year’s car accident.

Rice recently pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges stemming from a high-speed multi-car crash in Texas back in March 2024. Following this, a Dallas County judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail during his five-year probation period, which began in July.

Commenting on the situation, Rice mentioned on Saturday that the discussions regarding his potential suspension—based on the league’s personal conduct policy—are “still in work.” He trusts that his legal team is managing the dialogue with the NFL.

“I’ve completely changed,” Rice stated during Chiefs training camp. “You really have to learn from experiences like this, so I’ve tried to take advantage of what I’ve learned.”

He emphasized, “Right now, I can only focus on what’s in my control, and that’s what I’m doing my best to achieve on the field.”

Last season, Rice, now 25, managed to participate in only four games due to a knee injury, despite making an impressive debut in 2023 with 79 receptions and seven touchdowns.

He also indicated that the aftermath of the March crash weighed heavily on him, leading to “many sleepless nights” following the multiple accidents he caused on Dallas’s North Central Expressway. Reports suggest Rice left the scene on foot before authorities arrived.

When asked what insights he’s gained since the event, Rice noted, “Having such a great quarterback like Reed is truly a gift—a blessing, really.”

The NFL, through spokesperson Brian McCarthy, has stated they’re “examining all developments” related to Rice’s case.

Ultimately, Rice expressed his dedication to the sport, saying, “This is my job and my passion. Even if I can’t be with my team right now, I’m working as hard as I can to return to them as quickly as possible.”
