Suspected shooter who attacked driver after crowd incident near Hollywood nightclub has been apprehended

Last month, a suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred after a driver allegedly drove his car into a crowd outside an East Hollywood nightclub.

Efrain Villalobos, aged 38, was taken into custody at his home in Redondo Beach on Sunday afternoon. The Los Angeles Police Department shared this information.

This past Friday, police released images of Villalobos, who was seen wearing a blue Dodgers jacket, a No. 5 blue jersey, and blue jeans, to assist in his identification.

Authorities stated that Villalobos is “facing serious felony charges related to the shootings,” involving a man named Fernando Ramirez.

The case against Villalobos is anticipated to be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.

Villalobos allegedly shot 29-year-old Ramirez after he drove into a large crowd outside Vermont Hollywood on July 19th. Ramirez was removed from the nightclub for being disruptive and returned to the scene, where he drove into the crowd.

The aftermath saw emergency services responding to the chaotic scene after the crash, which injured several individuals waiting to enter the nightclub.

Seven of the victims were reported to be in critical condition after the incident.

Video footage captured a bystander attempting to pull Ramirez from his vehicle, escalating tensions as he punched and kicked him. Soon after, a man approached from across the street, shot Ramirez, and fled the scene.

Ramirez was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, receiving treatment for a gunshot wound. He has since been released and faces a staggering 74 criminal charges, including 37 counts of attempted murder.

Since his arrest, Ramirez has been held on $37 million bail.
