In an interesting turn of events, President Trump recently expressed his appreciation for actress Sidney Sweeney.
The 79-year-old commented on her recent American Eagle Jeans advertisement after her registration as a Republican was made public in voter records.
While speaking to a reporter on Sunday, during his departure from Allentown, Pennsylvania, he asked, “Is she a registered Republican?” When confirmed, he responded with mild surprise, saying, “Yes, Sydney Sweeney is [a Republican]?”
Trump referred to Sweeney’s ad as “great,” clearly pleased upon learning of her political affiliation.
“You’d be surprised at how many Republicans there are. That’s something I didn’t know,” he remarked, expressing his enjoyment at the news.
In his enthusiastic tone, he stated, “I love you now.” He went on to say that if Sweeney is indeed a registered Republican, then her ads are just fantastic.
The actress, known for her role in “Euphoria,” recently appeared in a high-profile ad campaign where she showcased a pair of jeans and a matching denim jacket.
Throughout the ad, Sweeney discussed characteristics passed down from parents to children, like “hair color and eye color.”
However, the advertisement stirred controversy online, with some users likening it to “Nazi propaganda” and drawing parallels with racially charged themes. One comment on TikTok expressed disbelief, saying, “Jesus Christ – this is such an AF-Ked Up campaign.”
Another user noted it gave off “subtle 1930s Germany” vibes.
Despite the backlash, Sweeney has yet to address the criticism or the parodies emerging from the ad. Interestingly enough, she appeared unfazed at the “Americana” premiere on Sunday night, dressed in a white gown and matching headband, and was seen enjoying karaoke with friends the night before.
