Cowboys Fans Rally for Micah Parsons Amid Trade Talks

Dallas Cowboys fans voiced their support for Micah Parsons during a training camp event in Oxnard, California, making their wishes clear to team owner Jerry Jones.

The All-Pro linebacker recently expressed his desire for a trade amid ongoing contract extension discussions that have been less than smooth. Fans took to the stands, chanting “We Want Micah,” reflecting the tension surrounding the situation.

Parsons, at 26, reiterated his commitment to the Cowboys during the camp, stating that he wants to be in Dallas, where his NFL career kicked off in 2021.

“I’ve done everything to show my commitment to being a Cowboy and representing this team,” Parsons commented. Despite his efforts, he added, “Unfortunately, I don’t want to be here anymore.”

Currently, Parsons is still under his rookie contract for another year. He shared his experience of a conversation with Jones back in March about leadership and contract expectations. It seems there were mixed signals regarding negotiations.

“I went back and forth on what I wanted from my deal, but it didn’t feel like a formal negotiation at any point,” he explained. He also mentioned that there’s been no communication from the team about his contract since then, despite his agent’s efforts to engage with them. “It’s been silent, really,” he added.

Jones acknowledged the trade request for the first time during the camp, urging not to let fans worry. “We’re in a good place. This is just negotiation,” he reassured reporters.

Things took a turn as Jones referred to past contract negotiations, including those involving former Cowboy wideouts like Dez Bryant. This didn’t sit well with Bryant, who reacted on social media, expressing his frustration with the comparisons. “I don’t think it’s wise to mention my name in this context,” he stated.

Reflecting on previous contract negotiations, Jones remarked on how past discussions have evolved and indicated a less-than-ideal handling of the situation concerning Parsons.

Next up for the Cowboys is a preseason matchup against the Rams, followed by a season opener against the Super Bowl Champion Eagles on September 4th.
