A video featuring Sidney Sweeney, known for her role in “Americana,” has made waves online, showcasing her shooting skills at a gun range. This resurfaced footage sparked conversation, especially after it was disclosed that she is a registered Republican, which came amid backlash over her recent American Eagle advertisements.
Sweeney, who is 27, found herself under fire from social media activists who criticized her ads released in July, suggesting they hinted at controversial themes and highlighted her “good jeans.”
Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that she has been registered as a Republican in Monroe County since June 2024, as per public voter records obtained by the Post.
One clip from 2019 features her expertly hitting multiple dummy targets at the shooting range, which has now gained attention online for its timing with her latest controversy.
In this viral video, Sweeney quickly pulls out multiple targets, though she doesn’t fully spin around, creating a somewhat dramatic effect with each shot.
Despite her recent struggles with the ad controversy, Sweeney made an appearance on Monday at a screening for “Americana.” During the event, she reportedly faced heckling from some fans, who yelled, “We should stop advertising, that’s racist!” according to TMZ.
Sweeney seemed to ignore the hecklers and left the venue promptly.
American Eagle, the brand at the center of the controversy, defended their ads but ultimately pulled the video from their social media platforms.
In their statement, they emphasized that the focus has always been on the jeans—specifically, Sweeney’s style and story. They affirmed their commitment to celebrating the diverse ways people rock AE jeans.
Despite the backlash, Sweeney has received a wave of support from various online influencers and even some political figures, including former President Trump.
Trump publicly commended Sweeney for her political stance, stating, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ads are great.” He went on to discuss her popularity while taking a jab at Taylor Swift, who has been a target of his criticism for her political endorsements.
In his comments, Trump described Sweeney’s ads as “the hottest” and claimed they were selling well, encouraging her to continue her work.
He also included criticism of Swift, calling into question her values and her public appearances, like her appearance at the 2025 Super Bowl, where she faced backlash from some fans.
The post also mentioned Taran Tactical Innovations, which provided the firearms used in Sweeney’s shooting practice, but they had not yet responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
