Tragic Drowning at Bronx Daycare
A heartbreaking incident occurred at a Bronx daycare center where a one-year-old girl, identified as River Edimma Wilson, drowned in a pool while her caregivers were reportedly preoccupied with cooking. Her devastated parents are now seeking answers to what they describe as “an unimaginable tragedy.”
Authorities reported that River was found unconscious in the ground pool at Anna’s Butterfly Garden Family Group in Castle Hill just before 1 PM on Friday. Sources indicate that a 47-year-old woman responsible for supervising the children had left them unattended for about 20 minutes, during which time River fell into the pool.
The girl’s parents, IMA and Ifiok Wilson, are expressing their deep grief and frustration toward the daycare for what they perceive as negligence. They wonder how such young children could be left unsupervised for any length of time.
“What happened to my sweet baby?” River’s mother sobbed in an interview. Her father, too, lamented, “I thought she was safe.”
The family feels neglected by the daycare, claiming their requests for information have gone unanswered. “They trusted the daycare to protect and care for their children,” a news report noted, reflecting their devastation over losing their child.
Frustration mounts as the daycare appears uncommunicative, further deepening the family’s suffering. They assert that the daycare’s vague statements to the media are insufficient and don’t address their concerns.
After the initial 911 call, first responders arrived to find River unconscious and unresponsive. A former police officer was nearby and heard the commotion, rushing to assist.
He described the chaos: “There were screams, screams. We went to the backyard area, where we started CPR after seeing the baby.” This officer recounted the frantic attempt to revive her, stating he was unable to find a pulse.
River was then transported to Montefiore Einstein Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Currently, the investigation into her tragic passing is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the official cause of death. No arrests have been made as of yet.
