Tragic Incident In New Jersey
A New Jersey state trooper, tasked with protecting the governor, is believed to have shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend before apparently taking his own life.
On August 2, Law enforcement discovered the bodies of Lauren Semanchik and Tyler Webb at their New Jersey home following reports of an unconscious woman. According to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor, Ricardo Santos was later found dead in his vehicle with a handgun, suspected of suicide. At one point, he had been assigned to protect Governor Phil Murphy.
On August 1, the Franklin Township Police received several 911 calls reporting sounds of “audible gunshots and screams,” but officers were unable to pinpoint the incident’s location at that time.
Semanchik’s father discovered their bodies, and her sister, Deana Semanchik, stated, “She was running away. She was shot in the back.” She went on to express that her sister had given so much of herself and had strong values.
The family revealed that Semanchik and Santos had ended their relationship almost a year prior. Following the breakup, Santos reportedly began to harass her, claiming he filled her gas tank with water and placed recording devices in her home.
Deana recounted, “She tried to block him multiple times, but he kept calling from restricted numbers. He even showed up at her workplace.”
A spokesperson for Governor Murphy expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “We are shocked and devastated by this horrifying tragedy. We will refrain from further comment at this point due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation.”
Semanchik worked as a veterinarian, while Webb served as a firefighter in the Pinewald Pioneer Volunteer Fire Company.
