Concerns Raised Over Tim Walz’s Ties to China
A recent document has emerged, revealing that officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expressed concerns regarding Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s connections with China after he joined the Democratic presidential ticket last year.
Judicial Watch, through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, obtained these documents which appear to substantiate the worries. The scrutiny of Walz’s long-standing relationship with the Chinese government intensified following his selection as a running mate for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to DHS officials, “China is happy.” This comment came the day after Walz’s official announcement on August 7, 2024, to join the campaign during a group chat titled “NST NFT Bieekly Sync.”
Republicans have been critical of Walz, noting his extensive ties to China, including approximately 30 visits to the country with funding from the Chinese government. Reports from the Daily Caller News Foundation have delved into Walz’s connections with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), documenting how he engaged with CCP loyalists and participated in events organized by pro-China nonprofits during the 1990s.
In a group chat, a DHS official commented on Walz’s status, saying, “Wal[z] has a VP. You all don’t know what this will feed into and how [the People’s Republic of China] I’m doing it here with him and the local government.” They indicated that it presents a serious intelligence concern. Another DHS employee suggested involving the FBI for its counter-intelligence expertise, though the specific roles of those involved in the chat are unclear.
Walz hasn’t responded to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. Meanwhile, a whistleblower alerted the House Oversight Committee about last year’s messages as the committee began investigating Walz’s relationship with CCP entities. James Comer, the committee’s chairman, revealed that DHS was summoned to provide records, although the department later resisted the request.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, emphasized the significance of these revelations, suggesting that the Biden administration is attempting to cover up issues that could impact the election. Despite the challenges in his campaign alongside Harris, Walz continues to defend his remarks about China.
In June, he raised questions about who holds the moral authority to negotiate globally, implying that it might be the Chinese. “Now I ask who it is. I mean, consistently and again and again, we’ll have to face reality; it could be Chinese,” he said.
