Trump Establishes Task Force for 2028 Olympics

On August 5, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to set up a task force dedicated to the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

During the ceremony, he emphasized America’s role on the global stage, stating, “The United States is a champion country… in July 2028, America shows the world what America is best at, and that’s what it wins.” It really seemed like he was excited about the potential for global recognition, you know?

Trump continued, expressing his anticipation for the LA games. “The LA Olympics are becoming a great moment for America. It’s going to be incredible. It’s so exciting,” he remarked.

In addressing sports governance, he commended Gene Sykes, the chairman of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), particularly in relation to a recent decision to ban transgender women from female sports categories. He asserted, “The US will not let men steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics,” highlighting what seems to be a divisive issue.

Organizers announced an Olympic Torch Relay that will traverse all 50 states, a notable first, and even presented Trump with medals commemorating the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles—a nice touch, really.

As part of the task force, Trump will take the role of Chair, with Vice President JD Vance serving as the vice-chairman. A number of Cabinet Secretaries and other administrative members will also be involved.

White House press chief Caroline Leavitt stated that Trump views overseeing this global event as a “great honor,” noting that sports are one of his “biggest passions.” It’s intriguing how much personal interest he has in athletics, isn’t it?

The 2028 Olympics will be significant as it marks the first time the games are held in the US since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
