Terry McLaurin Seeks Trade Amid Contract Talks
Two-time Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin has reportedly asked to be traded from the Washington Commanders. This development comes as he and the team seem to be at a standstill over a possible contract extension.
While McLaurin showed up for training camp, he opted not to participate in practice, effectively marking him as a hold-in. In a related action, the Commanders put McLaurin on a list that prevents him from physical participation.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a standout season as the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year last year, weighed in on the situation. He expressed hope that he would still get to connect with McLaurin during the upcoming season, stating, “I know that one day 17 will start running here – and soon if possible.”
Daniels acknowledged that the front office would take the lead on contract negotiations but remained optimistic about McLaurin’s future with the team. “I can’t control what he’s doing in his business or in his front office. I just try to be the best version of myself every day. I hope one day everything will be resolved and 17 catches the pass,” he noted.
Last season, McLaurin made an impressive mark, achieving a career-high of 13 touchdown receptions and accumulating 1,096 receiving yards. His performance played a significant role in the team’s success, particularly benefiting from Daniels’ breakout year. Besides his offensive accolades, Daniels also earned a Pro Bowl selection.
McLaurin was drafted by Washington in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft after his time at Ohio State. Notably, he has managed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in every season, excluding his rookie year. He signed a three-year deal with the Commanders in 2022, which is set to expire after the 2025 season.
