Teamsters leader claims Harris distanced the union by asking for endorsements

O’Brien Critiques Harris and Teamster Dynamics

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien recently shared his thoughts about then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s pressure on his union during a meeting, which he described as tense. He recounted this during a discussion with Bari Weiss on a podcast focusing on genuine representation for the working class in America, especially as politics shifts.

O’Brien recalled an awkward encounter with Harris while on a photo op line. He described how a fellow union leader stated her position, to which Harris responded rather pointedly, implying that the Teamsters should support her. This left O’Brien feeling taken aback.

Criticism of Harris isn’t new for O’Brien, who has previously voiced his dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party. During a meeting with union leaders, he mentioned that while they had prepared numerous questions, Harris only addressed a few of them. This lack of engagement frustrated him and his colleagues.

O’Brien paraphrased Harris’s message as something like, “You’re either with me or you’ll miss out,” which he felt had an air of self-righteousness. Post-meeting, he noted that many in attendance were put off by her demeanor and responses, something he sensed quite readily.

He mentioned that the lack of endorsement for a candidate in the 2024 election didn’t go unnoticed, particularly when it drew backlash from various groups, including some who claimed to be friends. O’Brien also noted how this criticism intensified following the union’s decision.

As of now, there has been no response from Harris regarding these allegations.
