Moms for Liberty Listed as Hate Group in Massachusetts Police Training

The committee that trains police officers in Massachusetts has labeled Moms for Liberty (M4L), a conservative parental rights organization, as one of the “hate groups” in their updated training materials.

M4L has been actively campaigning to remove children’s books from school libraries that cover gender identity, sexuality, and various LGBTQ+ topics, viewing these as tools for radical indoctrination.

Founded in 2021 during the COVID-19 school closures, M4L initially focused on advocating for schools to reopen, emphasizing the mental health challenges faced by children during prolonged isolation. The group believes that in-person education is crucial for children’s emotional and cognitive growth.

Today, M4L’s mission centers around opposing sexually explicit materials in classrooms across the country, insisting on the protection of children’s innocence and moral standards.

With 278 chapters in 45 states and approximately 103,000 members, M4L promotes parental rights and individual liberty in education. Their members often wear t-shirts that read: “We do NOT CO-PARENT with the GOVERNMENT.”

Significant reforms are underway within the Massachusetts State Police, led by Colonel Geoffrey Noble, the agency’s first external leader. This represents a notable shift towards change within the department.

Among these reforms is a 2025 training presentation titled “Freedom and Hate: Speech, Crimes & Groups.” This slideshow defines “hate groups” and includes images of KKK members, categorizing such organizations as promoting animosity towards various demographic groups.

Listed among the hate groups in Massachusetts, M4L appears fourth on the chart—behind Antifa. One note from the slide points out that members use parental rights as a means to undermine public education, creating less inclusive environments for minority and LGBTQ+ students.

M4L acquired these training materials through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Tina Descovich, co-founder of M4L, expressed concerns about the new narrative being taught to police officers in Massachusetts.

“We need to examine what is happening with these trainings and how they perceive our actions,” Descovich remarked, stressing that their approach does not warrant police scrutiny.

Descovich also drew attention to the misrepresentation of M4L alongside Antifa in the training materials:

“Moms for Liberty attends school board meetings to advocate against inappropriate curricula, while Antifa engages in widespread violence. The two groups are not the same,” she stated.

Antifa is known as a far-left movement that describes itself as opposing fascism, although its members have frequently been involved in violent incidents, including during the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

The training material’s Antifa slide mentioned their use of homemade weapons and vandalism activities.

“Parents should have the right to opt out from sexualized content that conflicts with their religious beliefs, as recently affirmed by the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Montgomery County case,” she added.
