Spirit Airlines Pilot Arrested Amid Serious Accusations
A pilot for Spirit Airlines was arrested at the airport, facing charges that reportedly involve a suspected minor victim.
Dominique A. Chipola, a 40-year-old pilot, was taken into custody on July 17 while at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Reports indicate the airline is aware of the situation and is monitoring it closely, as the investigation is still ongoing.
A Spirit Airlines representative confirmed that Chipola has been suspended from his duties as the investigation proceeds. Another pilot has been arranged to take over his flight responsibilities.
Chipola is accused of stalking two children in Olathe, Kansas, with a criminal charge filed on July 11 detailing the accusations. According to the Johnson County District Court records, he faces two counts of stalking minors, described as “fear-inducing reckless conduct.”
The court documents note that the alleged incidents involving the minors took place on August 5, 2024. The alleged victims are said to be between the ages of 12 and 17, which escalates the charges to felonies. Convictions could lead to up to three years in prison, while a misdemeanor charge could result in a maximum of one year in jail and fines up to $2,500.
On Saturday, Chipola arrived at Johnson County Jail in Kansas. He was released shortly after posting a $12,500 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Conditions of his release prohibit him from leaving Kansas without court approval and from having any contact with children. Records indicate that Chipola resides in Kansas City, Missouri, located about 22 miles from Olathe.
According to a now-deleted LinkedIn profile, Chipola has been a pilot with Spirit Airlines since 2022. The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, which is handling the case, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the charges.
Chipola’s attorney has emphasized that he is not a criminal, characterizing him as having a clean record and strongly denying the allegations against him. He has urged the media to allow the judicial process to unfold without interference.
This incident occurs amidst other concerning events in the aviation sector, highlighting ongoing issues related to pilots and safety. Such happenings raise questions that are difficult to overlook.
