Sam Darnold Joins Seahawks, Eyes Big Season Ahead

Sam Darnold may not have reached the peak of his NFL career yet, but there’s talk that one of the legends from the Seattle Seahawks could surpass him by 2025. Last season, Darnold put up impressive numbers, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings, who finished at 14-3. Now with the Seahawks after transitioning in free agency, he faces the task of proving his worth once again.

Expectations are high. A former Seahawks player, who was crowned league MVP back in 2005, believes Darnold has what it takes to check off all the necessary boxes this season. “I think he’ll show improvement compared to his last stint with us,” he shared. “With the right offensive coordinator in place, I think the system will suit him well. The practice sessions looked promising.”

Darnold is reuniting with Clint Kubiak, an offensive coordinator he worked with at the San Francisco 49ers, where he served as a backup after leaving the Carolina Panthers. Kubiak had been with the New Orleans Saints last season, adding to the offensive dynamism the Seahawks are aiming for.

This year, the Seahawks’ attack is looking different with changes in the roster, including the trade of wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a consistent part of Seattle’s passing offense, but with the emergence of Jackson Smith-Njigba last season, the team made some strategic moves. The combination of Smith-Njigba with running backs Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, in addition to Darnold’s skills, has sparked bold predictions from the Seahawks’ veteran.

“I truly believe Seahawks have a chance to go 17-0,” he said with a chuckle. But realistically, he sees them as a playoff contender. “Last season, they finished 10-7 and I see them going 11-6 this time around. They can surprise some teams and it’s tough to beat them at home.”

Darnold and the Seahawks are gearing up for their 2025 season opener on September 7, facing off against his former team, the 49ers, in a tough NFC West matchup.

Honoring the Military

In addition to the football chatter, Alexander expressed his appreciation for the military at a recent event with USAA, where he engaged in training drills alongside military personnel. He described the day as “special,” highlighting the camaraderie he felt during competitive activities.

He also took a moment to thank those who serve, sharing a personal connection as his brother is a military veteran. “I see the dedication,” he remarked. “It’s like being a kid and wanting to do great things. Thank you for sharing those moments with the army.”
