Tragic Incident in Harlem: Son Stabs Father
A 58-year-old man was tragically stabbed in the neck by his own son, according to police and prosecutors on Wednesday. This incident took place in the Langer House apartments on Harlem River Drive, around 11:45 PM on July 20.
The elderly victim, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed, sustained severe injuries from the attack by his 24-year-old son, Lamont Oliphant. After being stabbed, he somehow managed to leave his apartment, navigating through the hallway, past the elevator, and down to the lobby before collapsing on the sidewalk.
While the details are still unfolding, the prosecution described the harrowing scene in court. The injured man was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he slipped into a medically induced coma and underwent surgery to repair significant damage to his neck arteries.
Around an hour and a half after the stabbing, police found Oliphant outside the building, holding the bloodied knife and stating he planned to return to his apartment. The blood evidence on the ground matched the location where the attack occurred, according to the district attorney’s office.
Following the initial complaint, Oliphant was arrested and charged with attempted murder and felony assault. He was subsequently ordered to be held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond during his court appearance on July 22.
Sadly, the victim’s condition worsened over the week, and he eventually died from his injuries on Friday. The city’s medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide.
In light of these developments, on Wednesday, Oliphant faced upgraded charges of second-degree murder and was ordered to remain in custody without bail.
