Democratic Strategist Calls for Bold Moves to “Save Democracy”

James Kerrville, a veteran Democratic strategist, recently suggested that his party should embrace bold and perhaps controversial actions to protect democracy. Speaking on Wednesday, he stated that the Democrats often highlight the need to maintain democratic principles, but he believes the current state of democracy is far from complete.

Kerrville pointed out several perceived deficiencies within the system, specifically mentioning Texas’s efforts to redraw Congressional Districts. He argued that if Democrats secure significant victories in the upcoming 2028 elections for the presidency, Senate, and House, they should act decisively to safeguard their power.

He emphasized the necessity of incorporating Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., into the political framework, suggesting they should consider expanding the Supreme Court to include 13 justices. Kerrville acknowledged that while this might seem risky, especially given past political behaviors, the current climate under President Donald Trump leaves little room for hesitation.

“I feel somewhat skeptical about all of this,” he remarked, expressing a cautious perspective. “I mean, yes, opening Pandora’s box might lead to unforeseen consequences, but if the goal is to preserve democracy, these actions could be vital.”

He noted that it was uncertain whether such discussions should take place during campaigns, but he strongly believes that they should be a priority once Democrats are in office.
