Teddy Bridgewater Reflects on Coaching Experience and Suspension

Teddy Bridgewater is navigating through a challenging moment following his stint as head football coach at Miami North Western High School. The quarterback recently faced suspension after celebrating a successful season that culminated in a state championship.

Speaking to the media after inking a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bridgewater opened up about his suspension, which occurred last month. He shared insights into the decisions he made during his coaching tenure.

“Honestly, I think everyone knows me as someone who’s pretty upbeat. I’m a giver at heart,” he said. “Before anything else, I’m a father. When I coached those players, I saw them as my sons. Protecting them was my top priority, and I aimed to do just that.”

Bridgewater faced consequences for providing financial support to his players, which, he claimed, the school was informed about. He explained in a Facebook post that he personally funded various necessities for his team, including Uber rides, meals, and physical therapy sessions.

He even reached out on social media, hoping to ease his financial burden. “I just wanted to keep some joy in their lives and remind them of their worth without risking more of my own money,” he noted.

Reflecting on the environment around Miami North Western, Bridgewater expressed concern. “The neighborhood has its challenges. Sometimes kids face issues just walking home. I felt it was essential to ensure their safety,” he said.

Bridgewater’s coaching gig concluded after he successfully led the team to the Class 3A state championship in the fall. Now, as he returns to the professional league after a stint with the Detroit Lions, he aspires to inspire others on his journey back into the sport.
