Police apprehend individual in connection with shooting of teenager following NBA Finals Game 7.

A man was taken into custody on Monday following the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy after the Thunder clinched victory in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on June 22, according to police reports.

The suspect, 20-year-old Kajijapen, faces charges related to assault and battery involving a deadly weapon.

This incident occurred at Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City, where the teenager sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.

Initially, the suspect fled the scene post-argument, and while law enforcement searched the area shortly after, they couldn’t locate him.

Two days later, officers stopped Penn’s vehicle near the Paycom Center, just before 11 PM, and arrested him for unlawful possession of a firearm.

When authorities examined the firearm—a Glock 43x 9mm pistol—they found it linked to the June 22 shooting through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network.

On August 4, following an extensive investigation, police executed a search warrant for Penn’s residence in Oklahoma.

After the shooting, officers discovered the injured 14-year-old on the ground with a leg wound. Court documents reveal that he was unsure about the reason behind the shooting or who had attacked him.

In a subsequent police interview, Penn admitted to the shooting, explaining that he had been assaulted by others and had attempted to help his cousin, who was outnumbered.

Penn noted he fired at a group that approached them because his cousin was being chased.

Data retrieved from Penn’s phone confirmed his presence at the scene during Game 7 of the Finals.
