Concerns Raised Over Intel’s New CEO

President Trump, along with Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas, has expressed their worries regarding Intel’s CEO and the implications it may have for national security.

The president made a statement on his social media platform shortly after Senator Cotton sent a letter to Intel’s chairman. In the letter, Cotton highlighted serious concerns over the new CEO’s ties and how they might affect the safety of the country.

Cotton’s correspondence was directed to Frank D. Eary, the chairman of Intel. He pointed out the importance of ensuring the safety and integrity of Intel’s operations, particularly given the new leadership.

The new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, previously led Cadence Design Systems, a firm involved in electronic design automation technology. Cotton noted that Cadence has previously faced legal issues, specifically admitting to unlawfully selling products to Chinese military universities. This raises troubling questions about technology transfers to Chinese semiconductor entities.

In further letters, Republican senators have urged Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to limit access to the Department of Defense for non-U.S. citizens.

On a more direct note, Trump made his demands clear, stating that all Intel CEOs should “resign immediately,” indicating that this is the only way to approach the situation. He strongly affirmed that there would be no other solution to this issue.

According to reports, Senator Cotton’s letter reveals Tan has invested significantly in various Chinese firms over the years. He questioned whether there have been any undisclosed investments, especially considering Intel has been the recipient of substantial federal funding.

It’s noteworthy that Intel was allocated $8.5 billion through the Chips and Science Act in 2024, along with around $11 billion in government loans. Tan’s arrival as CEO happened quite recently, following the departure of Pat Gelsinger.

In response to these concerns, Intel assured that they, along with Tan, are committed to maintaining integrity within the U.S. national security framework. They have expressed intentions to address Cotton’s concerns, hoping to respond by a specified date.
