Efforts to Deport a Suspected Murderer Linked to a Venezuelan Gang
The Department of Homeland Security is taking steps to deport a suspected murderer who allegedly has ties to the Tren de Aragua gang, which saw members enter the U.S. during the Biden administration, according to reports.
On Thursday, the federal government formally requested that Colorado authorities hand over Michelle Jordan Castellano Fonseca, enabling his return to Venezuela.
Castellano Fonseca was apprehended on Sunday after allegedly breaking into an apartment in Aurora, Colorado, where he is accused of shooting both his wife and sister-in-law.
A tragic incident occurred when the step-sister of a Venezuelan immigrant was killed in this brutal attack.
Aurora police arrested Castellano Fonseca on Monday, and he’s now facing murder charges.
According to agency officials, DHS is in the process of filing a detainee request since he is no longer under local jurisdiction.
However, it’s worth noting that Aurora police may be hesitant to comply, citing the Sanctuary Act.
Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin expressed concerns, stating, “Aurora, Colorado, a sanctuary city, is harboring gang members from Tren de Aragua, which threatens our community.”
She added, “The dedicated men and women of ICE are committed to ensuring that terrorists like those from Tren de Aragua are removed from our country for good.”
In December 2023, Venezuelan immigrants were quickly admitted to the U.S. under the understanding that they had crossed illegally and would later appear before an immigration court.
Nearly a year after crossing the border, Castellano Fonseca was arrested again in Port Richie, Florida, for driving without a valid license.
During this most recent arrest, authorities discovered that some illegal immigrants had outstanding warrants for domestic violence charges in Arapaho County, Colorado.
Over the past year, Aurora has seen an influx of Venezuelan immigrants, coinciding with the growing presence of the Tren de Aragua gang in the area.
As conditions worsened, reports emerged of gang members taking over apartments and instilling fear through gun violence, theft, and drug-related activities.
In a notable incident captured on video, members of the Tren de Aragua gang were seen attempting to force entry into an apartment shortly before a fatal shooting occurred.
President Trump has made it a priority to target members of the Tren de Aragua gang throughout the United States, even going so far as to designate the group as a foreign terrorist organization upon his return to the White House.
